Avalanche Project Summary
In what ways was Snow Science relevant to your life?
Snow Science is relevant to the lives of many, including in mind. I am taking in mind my passion for skiing and someday I may want to pursuit backcountry. It is extremely significant to know the aspects and dangers of snow, such as avalanches. When going skiing out of bounds, avalanche danger immediately spikes. I am extremely fortunate to have been able to learn an example of snow science, being avalanches, to apply to my near future.
What do you now understand about the role snow and water play in the American West (be specific)?
After learning about snow in the American West, I retained the significance that snowfall fall plays in the colorado river. The Colorado River supplies 7 states with the means they need to furnish the needs of the citezens. With climate change, the amount of snow is slowly decreasing which is putting strain on the colorado river. We no longer have as much water as we need so it is important to conserve and not waste.
What skill did you develop through engaging this material?
I believe the skill i inherited throughout this project was synthesizing and applying knowledge. I was able to take the knowledge I learned in class and think about how I can apply it to the real world. I developed the awareness and caution associated with avalanches and snow in general. This project has given me the mindset to apply my knowledge while in the backcountry. I now know how to test warning signs of an avalanche and help insure safety while having a good time. things life checking snowpack, looking at weather reports and avalanche danger for the the day are all essential for skiing in the mountains. I know I'm not an expert but it has encouraged me to learn more.
What is one thing that you particularly enjoyed doing/learning, what is one thing you struggled with/did not enjoy?
I enjoyed learning a life-long skill that i will carry on with me when putting myself in a position where an avalanche may occur. It was a bennifical learning process and was easier to relate to than most things we learn about. Something that i would have changed throughout this project, was the learning style. I did not particularly like sitting in class listening to lectures for an hour. My attention span is not very big and listening to Brian talk for that long was hard to retain any information.

Design it Clean
For this project we studied a country that is facing a problematic situation in their water supply. We made a filter based on the living organisms and diseases that the water contains and ran tests based on the efficiency of the filter.
